The Glasshouse

Let us go then, you and I, to play make-believe games in the abandoned warehouse below the bridge. Let us pretend we are searching for Atlantis, as we weave our way between the rusted pipes where ivy has laid claim, creeping over skeletal remains and pushing past curtains of Spanish moss hanging from the stairs. Give me your hand and let me hold it against my own, our fingers interlaced so I can memorize the flutter of your beating heart underneath your papyrus skin. And when I lost you among the green depths, it did not feel quite as terrifying as I imagined. For it was just drowning. And we were just playing hide-and-seek, underneath the wandering trees among bones buried beneath tea leaves, and you never ever wanted to be found.
