It’s Wednesday afternoon and you are playing piano in the summery light, playing my favorite piece. I've forgotten the name of it, but I know the song like I know the number of exhales you make on your cigarettes. I am in the other room, biting the eraser of my pencil and trying to write something down on this painfully blank piece of paper. I’ve been staring at the blank wall since morning and in between the spaces of your piano keys, I keep losing these words, along with everything else I could never give you. What are words, anyways? What words are keeping you so far away from home. What words could bridge that infinitesimal distance between us again. And. What words are keeping me from bolting out of this chair and running away from you, from this, from everything. I’d be lying if I said “nothing”.

  2. The first photo is my favorite, with the shadows over the photos. Everything you always share is so delicate looking. And your words are always stunning. I think this is one of those times where I am going to have to read and reread everything. I'm sitting here, imagining my best friend playing the piano in the background, tapping out keys and playing it because he knows, he KNOWS, that it is my favorite, and he is torturing me.

    1. I really liked the first photograph as well. I was sitting in my chair feeling rather bored when I noticed the light of the setting sun made funny patterns on my wall (from the blinds). So I stuck a couple old holga photos on the wall and this is the result. It is really funny because this post is inspired by my good friend who plays piano and there is this piece call "Feel" by Joe Hisaishi that she showed me and I was listening to it while writing this.

  3. Wow. Amazing words. In some ways, they make me want to read more about the characters, but in other ways, I feel I already know everything about them.

    1. I am glad you like it! It is as you say, everything about the characters is captured in this instant. Is there more to add to the story, probably not? I wrote this when I was feeling moody and uninspired with cabin fever, so maybe the main narrator has those feelings as well.
