California Rest In Peace

Sometimes when I'm walking home in the blazing sun, I like to pretend we're in California. Hanging out on the monkey bars after 3 PM smoking chocolate cigarettes, like some delinquent teenagers with our over-sized sunglasses and ripped shorts. We'd stay out until the sun finally sets and eat raspberry sorbet instead of dinner - getting drunk on all the good things in life.

Cause it's not summer unless you are running after the ice cream truck and counting out every penny while biting your tongue; unless you are falling asleep on the doorstep with the fireflies glowing in your hair. Every day I'd fall in love with another stranger on the bus and secretly draw his face in my sketchbook. Tomorrow, I'll dream up stories of him that inevitably end with a broken heart - just the way I like it.

    1. Thanks! I'm working all summer and daydreaming on the weekends, but it isn't bad. Pretty excited to be going home in a few weeks though!

    1. It kind of does! I pick up all these random feathers while walking on the medical school campus and I get weird looks from people all the time.

  3. geez, these photos, this story.. I love it. It reminds me of memories that i don't really want to remember, so it's bittersweet.

    1. I'm glad it resonates with you - it's something I try to do with all my pictures and writing. Bittersweet is the best chocolate anyways - everything else is just a little too fake for me =)

    1. Thanks! I got inspired by a gorgeous boy I saw on the metro. We made eye contact briefly and I couldn't stop sneaking looks at him because he was so pretty!!

  5. I absolutely love that last paragraph, it just kind of sums up summer so perfectly, especially the strangers part. All the time at work I just look around and observe the people around me, their faces, their bodies, their groceries. We live in such an interesting place.

    1. I completely agree with you! I am always shy around strangers because I tend to stare and it is embarrassing to be caught staring!

  6. Sounds beautiful, I've fallen in love with strangers like that too. And then we grow up.
